National Institute for International Education. The Korean government body that administers GKS.
Global Korea Scholarship. The Korean government's full scholarship program for international students.
GKS Undergraduate track. For bachelor's degree applicants, usually under 25.
GKS Graduate track. For master's and doctoral applicants, usually under 40.
Test of Proficiency in Korean. The official Korean language proficiency exam with 6 levels.
Universities in the Seoul/capital region. At least 1 of your 3 embassy-track choices must be Type B.
Regional universities (outside Seoul). Often less competitive with larger quotas.
An international certification for documents. Required for Hague Convention member countries.
Apply through the Korean Embassy in your country. Choose up to 3 universities. 3 selection rounds.
Apply directly to a Korean university. Choose only 1. 2 selection rounds. Global competition.
Regional GKS. A special track for Type B universities only, often with larger quotas.
A required document outlining your academic plan before, during, and after Korea. Future-focused.
A required document about who you are, your motivation, and your connection to Korea. Past-focused.
Cumulative Grade Point Average. GKS has specific thresholds per scale (e.g. 2.64/4.0).
The student visa for degree programs in Korea. Applied for after receiving your GKS award letter.
Alien Registration Card. Your Korean ID card — needed for banking, phone contracts, and more.
South Korean Won. The local currency. ~1,300 KRW ≈ 1 USD (approximate).
Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University. The most competitive schools — picking all 3 is a common mistake.
Official Development Assistance. Applicants from ODA-recipient countries get evaluation preference (Türkiye is not one).
